mascaras a'plenty

I've been trying to clean out some of the closets and drawers in our house and this has led me to realize some things that I knew, but that I didn't know. Like that I actually own more pairs of nice jeans than I need. That my clothes weight enough to break the closet rod. And that I have a bit of a mascara addiction.

Hello world, I'm Regan and I have a total mascara addiction. I can't see a mascara and not feel compelled to buy it. And it doesn't help that I haven't found a mascara that I'm willing to commit to yet. I've found some that I like a whole lot and am even willing to buy more than once (as you can tell from the 4 tubes of Lash Exact), but I just keep thinking that there has to be a better one out there.

And since I know you're really dying to know what I think about these, here goes, from left to right:

  • Max Factor Vivid Impact Highlighting Mascara. This one sucks. It's a duel wand, with black on one side and a silver "highlighting color" on the other. Except it doesn't highlight as much as massively clump. I should really just toss it as I'm never going to use it again.

  • Avon SuperSHOCK. I actually really liked this one a lot, but I thought it dried up really quickly. I would have bought it again if the tube had lasted longer.

  • MAC mascara X. This used to be my favorite, but has been replaced. It's long lasting and the color is rich, but it's not all that lengthening.

  • L'Oreal Double Extend Lash Extension Effect. This one's new as of today so I don't know yet. Hopefully it won't suck.

  • BADgal Lash. Benefit makes great products and this mascara is no different. I've only had it a week, but I'm loving it thus far. I found this formula to be thick, but not clumpy. The brush is a bit on the big side, which makes it hard for me to apply it to my lower lashes, so I usually don't bother. Honestly, I don't usually bother with the lower lashes no matter the mascara.

  • the colossal volum' express. I liked this one a lot until I got BADgal lash. I also keep reading reviews that says it smells like printer toner and I don't get that. And I've even gone back to sniff the tube a couple of times just to make sure.

  • Cover Girl Lash Exact. Maybe I'm just a sheep and am easily swayed by commercials and marketing, but I love this mascara's plastic brush thing. It doesn't clump or flake and it's cheap. I have so many tubes because Target had it on sale recently in packs of three for $6 and, before I knew what was going on, I was checking out with a pack of black and a pack of brown-black.

  • Too Faced Lash Injection Pinpoint. Love. lovelovelove. The brush is teeny tiny and I can really get close to the bases of my lashes with it. It really lengthens and seriously, OMG, I love it. The only thing is that it's a bit hard to remove, but you can't have everything, right?

  • If I had to pick, I would continue to buy the Lash Exact as my drugstore brand and the Too Faced as my expensive brand. I really want to try this one, but $34 for mascara is a bit painful. Has anyone tried it? Am I missing out? Is it awesome? Tell me it's horrible, please.

    1. I am about to try the Estee Lauder oscillating mascara for BlogHer, I'll be writing about it.

    2. lancome defincils!
not sure about vibrating mascara, but i am intrigued.
v disappointed in the diorshow stuff. am going to stop experimenting, and next time i get a gift certificate to sephora, i'm getting more defincils.

    3. I always buy my mascara at Target, so I go cheap every time. I actually started using the Rimmel Volume Flash mousse, which I like. But because it is mousse, it is really wet. I switched to the regular and one of my friends commented on my lashes, so I'm sticking with it.

    4. I have bright yellow one since I am a sucker for obvious marketing/bright colors and I HAVE noticed it smells a bit. However this is probably only because my roommate used my mascara without asking and shoved the wand in so hard (you are not supposed to pump! This dries out your mascara like 5x faster than normal! Why do people NOT understand this?! And more importantly WHY was she using my makeup?!) she broke the top piece off that strains the excess mascara off. So now the wand comes off covered in mascara. And that is probably the only reason I can even notice the smell.

I rather like it. Kinda like I enjoy the smell of gasoline. (oops)

    5. you should take close up photos of your lashes with each of the different mascaras on. This way we, your readers, will really get to see how good- or bad- they are. And I promise you won't look foolish or blind yourself withthe flash.

    6. Lancome makes the best mascara. I used the Defensils for a long time but then switched to the Amplicils. I've loved all of their various versions of stuff ever. On the downside, it's expensive, so I recently bought some Maybelline Great Lash Mascara and it's pretty good stuff - it doesn't dry as quickly so that is a downside, and the wand isn't as good as the Lancome ones so it takes longer to put it on and have it look good. It does hold up well all day and not really flake or anything throughout the day, though. It's also cheap, like under $5 cheap. I also just bought some L'oreal Voluminous mascara, but I haven't opened it yet. It was about $8.

    7. I used to use Max Factor, the auburn stuff (which looks great with green eyes btw) but I think it's been discontinued. I also have about 3 tubes of the purple one... and I just bought the mineral kind that some big company makes... you can get it at Target.... it's pretty nice.

    8. Lemme save you some time in the future - L'oreal's Double Extend mascara clumps like a mother f-er. Sure, it extends, but I have to spend the next several minutes de-clumping. Hardly worth it.

    9. I LOVE Lash Exact. And Clinique.

    10. I finally opened my L’oreal Voluminous mascara and used it. I highly recommend it. The wand is really good (not like the crappy one in the Maybelline Great Lash mascara. It also hasn't flaked and dried quicker than the Maybelline. The L'oreal will be my new mascara.

    11. I'm all about the Yves Saint Laurent Faux Cils. LOVE IT. No smudgy, lengthening, thickening, and comes in great colors (I have black and burgandy, which makes my hazel peepers really pop). Kind of expensive, but the tube last forever without drying or getting clumpy (like 9 mos to a year, and don't the pros say we're supposed to toss things after 6 mos anyway, for sanitary reasons?) Love the YSL.
