(there's a lot of this)

I spend a lot of time running. It's my time to clear my head, leave the kids behind, and (I know this sounds crazy) relax. I used to refuse to listen to music while running because it made me very aware of the amount of time that had passed (3 songs at about 3:30 each equals about 10:30 of running. Why do I feel like I'm dying if it's only been 10:30?) but lately I've abandoned the podcasts and gone back to music. (I've done this because I've also abandoned iTunes and I haven't figured out how to listen to podcasts without it. Am dumb. Very dumb.)

This switch back to music has led me to do some stupid things while I run like randomly shouting out lyrics or going from running to doing some kind of spastic dance/run/strut move. It's really quite embarrassing and yet I continue to do it, sometimes even in busy public places like while running past Whole Foods. Or a packed bar downtown. It's really not good although it seems the drunk frat boys like laughing at me.

And now, in case you want to make an ass of yourself too, here are a few of the songs that make me do stupid things.

Down in the Treme, just me and my baby, we're all going crazy! (insert stupid high knees step/strut thing)

clapclap clapclap

Not gonna lie, I sing the whole song. The. Whole. Song.

There's plenty more that make me make an ass of myself, but I think you get the idea. Do you have any songs that really put a bit of pep (or a stupid dance move) in your step while running? Share please, I need to grow my playlist!

  1. Two songs by Queens of the Stone Age used to make me get all jiggy on the treadmill. You'll have to test them out running and report back: "First it Giveth" and "No One Knows" both from the album Songs for the Deaf.

(Also, I bought the album just for those two songs. D'oh. It was before I learned to love mp3s.)

  2. blister in the sun totally does it to me too!! I do this crazy hand thing. I can't help it.

  3. I listen to really crappy music, so I'm no help. It's why I listen to podcasts.

  4. I like to wiggle wiggle wiggle wiggle during Sexy and I Know It.

  5. God Damn you half Japanese girls! I'll bring home the turkey if you bring home the bacon! This is on my running list too. I'll send an email later of my playlist! But damn, weezer! And, obvs, I LOVE rockin' the suburbs- we're going to see Ben in May, becuase we are old motherfuckers.....

  6. "Sister Kate" by the Ditty Bops--every time they say "shimmy" I have to do shimmy-jazz hands. Also, the other day my husband said he could hear me on the treadmill and it sounded like my stride was uneven and I was like, pretty sure I was just running along to the music. Gotta emphasize those beats.

  7. Oh gosh yes, I prefer booty shaking music to keep me running. I have lots of Kanye, Jay Z, Britney, and old school 80s. I love Grace Potter and Paris (Ooh La La), Adele, but my favorites lately are all Nicki Minaj. She's the best to get me going!

  8. You got two of my faves on there! Home by Edward Sharpe and Magnetic Fields also makes me dance a jig.

  9. Oh man, when I'm running, it's entirely possible that I will be doing HAND DANCING while running IN PUBLIC ON A ROAD:
    Janelle Monae - Tightrope
American Boy -Estelle feat. Kanye West
    It's my Part - Jonquil
    Bad Girls - M.I.A.
(Good for hills or grinding through intervals)
Are you Gonna Be My Girl -J.E.T.
    Bodysnatchers - Radiohead
This doesn't make me boogie, but it's a song that makes me push harder.
